about
"Hot and Cold" is here for Earth Day. It’s a bouncy, cheerful, and sardonic love letter to the tech that’s speeding us to environmental ruin. From billionaires and their tech, to our own addictions to climbing the social ladder. The song’s message is summed up in the lyrical refrain, “I really can’t go on like this, when you’re not around.” Is this us not wanting to be left behind? Hoping tech can save us? A plea to mother nature? Us speaking to ourselves? Time will tell.
lyrics
Up, up in the distance
Red rockets take flight
Up, up in the distance
They’re learning to fly again
And we’re stuck on the ground
Dinosaurs in the distance
Hooking up in the underground
Do you think they’ll miss us
Dinosaurs are here again
And you’re not around
Up in the distance
Dinosaurs take flight
Do you think they’ll miss us
Do you think we will survive
She stole my heart
She stole my heart
When she wakes up
The castle walls come tumblin’ down
She’s hot and cold
And the thieves have hacked into the doomsday phone
They’re feeding leave of grass into a dial tone
She stole my heart
She stole my…
Really can’t go on like this
When you’re not around
She stole my heart
She stole my heart
When she wakes up
The castle walls come tumbling down
She’s hot and cold
Did you ever think that the lights would go
And we’d sit in the dark eating ones and ohs
While the tiny czars on their burner phones
Are slipping leaves of gold into their ice cream cones
She stole my heart
She stole my heart
Up in the distance
Red rockets take flight
Yeah, they’re gonna miss us
I really can’t go on like this
When you’re not around
